Pharmacists share drug abuse research

(The Daily Beacon, January 12) Friday is National Pharmacist Day, meaning Tennessee pharmacists are in the spotlight. One substantial responsibility they share which is worth investigating is prescription drug abuse prevention.

Greg Stuart, UT professor in psychology, works with prescription drug addiction patients and said that he most frequently sees opioid use disorders. In recent years, he said he has seen an increase in the number of opioid patients he treats.

“Significantly, thousands of Americans die every year due to opioid use overdoses,” Stuart said. “It is difficult to treat, as the majority of patients with an opioid use disorder relapse following treatment.” Read more at The Daily Beacon.
